Overview and History
Elephant Drive was created by a team of technologists who are passionate about developing world class programs and excited by the challenges of storing, securing, and protecting massive amounts of data. They are headquartered in LA and have worked together for years designing and providing internet applications. Currently they have one free version, two home versions, two SME accounts and corporate options.
Feature Set
Security
Data being moved to and from the servers are protected with 128bit SSL encryption; this is the industry standard. Once on their servers your file set is protected using 256 AEG encryption. You can use a personal encryption key to further protect your information.
Backup Features
Open and locked files can be backed up in the Professional versions but not in the home editions. External hard drives can be backed up except the Home edition, however network drives can be archived in the Pro and Pro Plus accounts. Backups can be continuous or scheduled, if continuous, then only files that are changed will be backed up. Backups can be setup to backup by folder or by file type. There is a utility called Trunk Manager that permits you to copy files directly from your computer to the Elephant Drive by way of either drag-and-drop or by picking the data you want to copy and click the upload or download buttons. File versioning is setup however the amount of versions allowed depends on the edition used:
- home edition gives 3 file versions
- home pro edition allows up to 10 versions
- pro edition provides 20 versions
- pro plus account permits unlimited versions
Restore Features
Files can be recovered from either the ‘Trunk Manager’ or the internet. In either case, navigate to the files you wish to retrieve and drag-and-drop the file to your PC. If you would like to recover an earlier version, then click on the file and pick ‘Version History’. Then choose the version you need to recover. Restores start almost instantly.
